Abstract

This study explores the cultural and mythological symbols in Urdu ghazal that were introduced in the early seventies. Besides, it intends to look back to the past and find the significance and the relevance of the current scenario at that time. Muhammad Izhar- ul-Haq is a prominent and prolific poet who has also used mythological and cultural symbols from Arab and non Arab civilizations in Urdu ghazal. His first collection of Ghazals, Deewar-e Aab, is an important milestone in this new style of ghazal. Conclusively, the article is an attempt to cover the different stages of Muhammad Izhar- ul- Haq's civilizational sensibility in Deewar-e Aab.
