Abstract

Among the tales written in the 19th century, Rajab Ali Baig Saroor's "Fasana Ajaib" holds a unique position. This story is not only representative of the Lukhnow school of thought, but also reflects the spirit of that era. Moreover, it is a mirror of Indian temperament, culture and civilization. This classic tale is a literary masterpiece that reflects the ancient civilization of Lukhnow and has the ability to survive in every era. Its uniqueness is not limited to Saroor authorship. In fact, it has remained in the general prose capital of Urdu. “Fasana Ajaib” gave its writer a permanent place in literature. The charm found in the style of “Fasana Ajaib” has made it superior the rest of the stories. Even if Saroor had not written anything else, he would have lived in “Fasana Ajaib”. This is the first story in Urdu literature of which innumerable editions have been published including the article edition. The salient features of “Fasana Ajaib” and Saroor's general style of expression are that it is the most important story in Urdu. This article examines the criticism of “Fasana Ajaib” in the light of various critical published books, which not only helps us to understand the importance of this classic work but also reveals many hidden aspects of this work through the criticism of each critic.
