Abstract

The distinguished and gifted poet of Ghaznavid era, Masood Saad Salman (1046-1121 AD) spent most of his life in prison. That is why his prison poetry holds an extraordinary place in the Persian literary history. The main objective of this article is to study the concepts and imaginations in his Persian poetry. Emotions and feelings determine the psychological aspects of the human being and help us to review the poetical ideas. In poetry, the use of eloquence is important in the creation of literal images. The four elements of rhetoric include simile, metaphor, authoritative sender, and allegory. The use of similes and metaphors in Masood's poetry is relatively high, while metaphor is rare. Simile is the basic element of imagination in Persian poetry. Masood Saad Salman has expanded the scope of his similes by taking advantage of his environment. The pictures taken in the reduced atmosphere of the prison are rare and real. Despite the hardships of imprisonment, he seems to be trying to gain the attention of the rulers by creating unique ideas and painting a painful picture of his situation.
