Regardless of the quality of the translation of the literary text, translation experts recommend that the translation should be close to the source text. But it is not possible to adopt this idea completely. The most difficult thing in the process of translation is to decide whether the translation should be closer to the source text or to the target language, and this decision is not conscious or arbitrary but depends on the nature of the text. Often in the translation, there is a mixture of these two trends that somewhere the translation seems to be closer to the source text and somewhere closer to the target language. American translation expert Lawrence Venuti has described these two trends as necessary to maintain a balance in translation.  In this regard, Venuti proposed the theory of domestication and foreignization under which various suggestions have been made to balance the translation. Venuti applied his theories to translated texts of American literature but also developed some applied theories in the light of which the balance of translated literature of other languages ​​can also be determined. In this paper, in the light of these ideas, the study of an English translation of the famous Urdu fiction writer Saadat Hasan Manto's short story "Hatak" is envisioned. The translation of this short story is the collective effort of Matt Reeck and Aftab Ahmad.
