Abstract
Linguistics and its related branches namely phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax and semantic-are propagated as a western achievement. Islamic world including the Arab scholars believe this theory. The article theorizes otherwise and proves that all linguistic discussions and branches had been laid down by the Muslim commentators of the holy Qur’an in the very first period of Islam though without the present day’s nomenclature of disciplines. And that the books on the Qur’anic commentaries are not only the basic sources for the understanding of Islamic sciences, but also provide basis for the modern day linguistic discourses.
