The history of relations between Iran and the Sub-continent dates back to 300 BC. For centuries, Persian enjoyed the status of language of the court. The locals showed a special interest to master this language. They not only wrote in Persian but also spoke it smoothly. The poets of the Sub-continent held Persian poets in great esteem considering them as poetic inspiration for them. Firdousi being one of the widely popular poets of Persian has been a special focus of the literati in and out of Iran. Our national poet Allama Muhammad Iqbal is among the admirers of Firdousi's poetic excellence. He also paid him tribute in his poetry. There are many similarities in the work of the both. This article is an attempt to highlight the similarities between the works of Allama Iqbal and Firdousi.
