Abstract

Urdu ghazal having been equipped with its diverse expressive devices is known as sinf-e-hazarshewa. There is a unique technique in this genre for the expression of thoughts and feelings by exploiting non-linguistic signifiers instead of words and phrases.This method of acquisition and expression of thoughts and feelings through signal-based communication mode is an old technique of our linguistic system. Moreover, such para-linguistic communication methodology, being closed to nature is proving out to be more effective and eloquent than traditional expressive devices. In the wake of this old expressive system, an organized poetics exist just like the traditional modes of our linguistic expressions. In Urdu, such unique method of expressions still exists in today's ghazal. The article discusses the ideological and applied aspect of this particular mode of expression.
