Abstract

Hali's Arz-e-Hal and Iqbal's Shikwa and Jawab-e-Shikwa are three poems in which the national decline of the Muslims has been highlighted by comparing their past and present. Their central idea is based upon national revival of the Indian Muslims. Since the desire of national revival is common to Hali and Iqbal, there are many similarities between their poems. Arz-e-Hal is written in the form of Qaseeda, while Shikwa and Jawab-e-Shikwa are composed in Musaddas, but thematically they are similar. Despite being different in form and style, Shikwa and Jawab-e-Shikwa are the extensions of Arz-e-Hal. The article analyzes the similarities and differences of these poems.
