Abstract

Shaukat Siddiqui is mainly remembered for his realist approach in Urdu literature. Interestingly, his writings are also full of satires. He mocks at the defects, demerits, evils and frivolities of the society. The satirical characters in his novels are the true representatives of injustice and cruelty in the society. These satirical characters are mostly top-notch officers, feudal lords, high rank officials and political authorities who hold the sway over the poor. They use public for their nefarious designs and worldly gains. They do not even hesitate to push them to further oppression even to death. They usurp public properties, treat them inhumanly and enforce them to remain their lifelong slaves. The article focuses satirical characterization in Shaukat Siddiqui’s novels.
