Abstract

Arberry was a famous orientalist of Britain. He has a special grip in both Arabic and Persian Languages. He was so found of Turkish Language and Literature that he was able to establish a teaching post in Oxford University. He was also a good admirer of Urdu language and literature but always regretted that he could not able to establish Urdu teaching post in said university. He was a true lover of Iqbalʼs Persian poetry. That’s why he translates his Ramooz-e Be-Khudī (The Secret of Selflessness) and Javīd Nama in English. Prof A.R. Nicholson wrote the preface of his The secrets of selflessness. His translation of the Holy Quran. The Koran Interpreted, also gave him world wide fame. He also translate Rub‘ayāt and other poems of Rūmī, Hafiz, Jamī, Mutanabbī and ʿOmar Khayyām. His interest towards Sufism reflected in his writings. He was an excellent translator, editor, researcher and critique of his era.
