Abstract
Urdu literature has a remarkable tradition stretching back over five centuries. On the other hand, the historiography of Urdu literature also has an almost century-old history. A History of Urdu Literature by Ram Babu Saxena (1927) is the first comprehensive and complete account of Urdu literature. Since then, numerous histories have been written about this literary tradition. Many historians have made successful contributions in this field. There is considerable diversity in this tradition of historiography. Some works address the entire literary tradition, while others focus on a specific genre, area, or region. This article discusses the annotated bibliography of detailed literary histories, which often span multiple volumes and are compiled either individually or collectively. It also highlights the tradition of compiling bibliographies, their benefits, and their different forms.
