Abstract

Pakistan and Iran are the two neighboring countries with deep-rooted religious, historical, and cultural ties. Both of the countries are strategically located in South Asia. They share a border through Iran’s Sistan- Baluchistan province, the only Iranian Province adjacent to Pakistan. Historically, the relationship between the two nations has always been enriched by shared traditions, language and cultural exchange. During the 11th century, under Ghaznavid rule, Lahore emerged as a significant center for Persian scholars and Sufis. It attracted scholars and mystics from Khorasan, India, and Central Asia, and also became a major Persian religious hub. Notably, “Kashf al-Mahjoob”, was the first religious book written in Persian prose in the subcontinent by “Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh Ali Hajveri”, and in the contemporary world, “Masood Saad Salman” became the first Persian-language poet of the subcontinent (now Pakistan). Pakistan and Iran share a remarkable affinity in various domains including history, literature, attire, arts, culinary traditions and cultural festivals. One of the most significant of these shared traditions is the celebration of Nowruz, which holds exceptional cultural and symbolic importance across the region. This study aims to explore the historical and cultural commonalities between Pakistan and Iran, with a particular focus on celebration of Nowruz offering an in-depth analysis of its regional significance and enduring legacy.
