Abstract

In human history, the institution of slavery has been built on solid foundations since ancient times, and their rights were also defined in various religious texts or laws. With the development of human civilization, the foundations of this institution began to shake. In this article we have underscored the character of the maids in Urdu Novels. It is found these characters been presented in a positive manner, faithfulnes and reliablilty has been described as their main attributes.  In Urdu novels, young girls were abducted and sold to become prostitutes in brothels and to become concubines in the mansions of the nobles. In addition, poor old people also sold their daughters in the famine years. Concubines in the mansions were divided into different gradesa nd services were taken from them according to their ranks. The custom of giving concubines as dowry gift on the occasion of marriage of Nawabzadis is also mentioned in the novels.
