Abstract
Urdu language is very rich in the sense that it contains all genres of poetry. The tradition of composing Hamd is very old in Urdu. Almost every worth-mentioning poet has rendered either long or short Hamd. Though Dewan-e-Hamd-e-Ezadi is considered to be the first Hamd anthology in Urdu published in 1908 yet this article theorises that the Dewan-e-Munajaat-e-Hindi of Kanniha Lal Hindi is the first collection of Hamd. This Dewan was published in 1873.
