Abstract
Bishara Abdullah was born in 1885 in Beirut and died in 1968. He adopted the name of renowned Umayyad poet Al-Akhtal. He was so prominent and famous in the Arab world that after great contemporary poet Ahmad Shauqi, he was honoured with the title of the poet laureate in Beirut in a colourful ceremony in 1961 and he administered ‘Ba’ya’ as the poet laureate. His poetry revolves around three topics: Lebanon, 2 Arab Nationalism and 3 sufferings of mankind. The article presents his brief life sketch, poetic qualities, topics and views of his contemporaries about his work. Besides Al-Akhtal Al-Saghir, he is also famous with the name of poet of love and romance.
