Abstract
Right from the beginning, women writers have been playing a vital role in the progress and development of Persian language and literature. Their role starts from fourth century A.D when Rabia Khuzdari rose and shone on the horizon of Persian literature as a prominent poetess. Among them is Mahisti Ganjvi, the poetess of eleventh century A.D. Following the foot prints of the olden poetesses, a significant number of modern women are enriching Persian literature with new literary currents. The article is an introductory study of the Persian poetesses and includes almost all the note-worthy modern Persian poetesses.
