Abstract
Mufti Muhammad Shafi is widely known for his services in the field of the Qura’nic Commentary, Hadith and Islamic Jurisprudence. He has many books to his credit written on various topics. But he is least known for his poetic flare. He was a seasoned poet and composed in Arabic, Persian and Urdu. This article covers his Arabic poetry. Imprints of the classical Arabic poetry are vividly seen on his poetic renditions. Besides excerpts and incorporations from Pre-Islamic and Islamic period’s verse, his is mainly a pedagogic poetry. He freely employed excerpts from the holy Qura’n and Hadith. The article also includes specimens of eulogy, elegy, romance and resistance from his poetry.
