Abstract
Being Muslims, a good number of Urdu poets learnt Arabic in their early age. Some of them studied Arabic literature also. They are influenced and fascinated by the beautiful and captivating style of the Holy Quran and sayings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). That’s why we see them using words and meanings borrowed from the Quran, sayings of the Holy Prophet and Arabic literature in their poetry. In this article, the impact of Arabic literature on Urdu poets by giving examples from their poetry has been elucidated and the light has been thrown on how their poetry has been influenced and enriched by the shades of Arabic literature.
