Abstract

Naguib Mahfouz is the most prominent name of contemporary Arabic literature. He is the only Nobel Laureate of the Arabic speaking world. He was a prolific writer and contributed to Arabic a rich treatise of fiction. He received worldwide popularity for his unique Trilogy. Though his main claim to fame is novel writing yet he also wrote short stories and number of his short story collections got published. This article deals with one of his master piece stories namely Qismati and Naseebi. He has successfully presented psychological conflicts, undercurrent contradictions and finally inevitability of the opposite through the story which show his keen observation and handling of the human psychology in a befitting way.
