Freedom is perhaps the most cherished passion of humanity. History witnesses that individuals and nations have made supreme sacrifices to achieve and maintain it. But the tragedy is that man has been slaving his fellows. This article is a study into the evolution of various concepts of freedom through history. It concludes with the assertion that ultimately it is Islam which presents the most comprehensive and perfect model of this concept and bestows humanity with dignity, regard and confidence.
