Abstract

Faiz Ahmad Faiz is considered as one of the important poets of the 20th century. His non-traditional life played an important role in his poetic fame. In this context, his four year imprisonment period on false accusation of being rebel is very important. His imprisonment catapulted his fame at national and international levels and soon he was considered as the top class poet of Urdu. His prison life enabled him to have variety of experiences and subjects which effected not only verse of Faiz but also whole Urdu poetry. His best poetry came into being during his prison life. At the same time, his prison life limited his poetry to particular topics. In this article, effect of prison life on Faiz's poetry has been analyzed.
