Abstract
Maulana Shibli Naumani is a renowned scholar and critic of Urdu. He penned many a book on different topics ranging from religion to history, poetry to criticism and so on. His rendition of Sh'irul Ajam is considered one of the greatest works on poetry chiefly in Persian and generally on the eastern tradition of poetry. This five volume book is widely quoted worldwide and the orientalists have also appreciated it for being the comprehensive source on eastern poetry. This article is a study of Shibli's oeuvre in post-colonial perspective.
