Jamil Jalbi is well known historiographer, critic, linguist, translator and editor. He has written History of Urdu literature in four volumes. He has compiled a dictionary of Urdu which is very helpful for students and scholars alike. Besides, Jamil Jalbi has also compiled an Uurdu English dictionary namely Qaumi Urdu Lugat, which is comprised of almost two lacs words. This article is an effort to review and acknowledge his services as a linguist. His objectives, method ,importance and objections of his critics have been included in the article.
