Abstract
The trend of shorter story under different names such as flash fiction, micro fiction etc has become very popular in world literature. Though Urdu has already traces of shorter story f fiction in fables, dastaan yet in modern form it is directly impressed by the English shorter story. In terms of form, it is much shorter than short story. It started in Urdu with Sadat Hasan Manto’s Siah Hashye in 1948. He was followed by Joginder Pal Singh. There is a long list of writers who contributed in this field like Dr Muzaffar Hanfi, DH Shah, Ratan Singh, Dr Azeem Rahi, Abbas Khan, Mansha Yaad, Pervez Bilgrami, Anwar Rahim, Dr Akhlaq Gilani, Deepak Badki, Qaiser Nazir Khawar, Mubashir Ali Zaidi, Syed Majid Shah etc. Now short story of about a hundred word is also getting popular in Urdu.
