Khwaju Kermani is considered one of the major Persian poets of the eighth century Hijri. Besides his other Persian literary works, he also composed a Khamsa in imitation of Nizami Ganjavi. Among the masnavis included in this Khamsa is Homayi and Homayun, a romantic narrative that, when examined carefully, reveals profound mystical and spiritual dimensions. Beneath the surface of the love story lies the secret of true and divine love, which can only be understood through a discerning and contemplative reading.An interesting aspect of this narrative is that it later inspired two other poetic romances written in the regional languages of the Indian subcontinent. One adaptation was composed in the Bahawalpuri/Multani language, while the second was written in Pothuhari, a dialect of the Punjabi language. These adaptations demonstrate the deep influence of Persian literary traditions on the vernacular literature of the subcontinent and reflect the cultural and spiritual continuity between Persian and regional poetic expressions.This article examines these stories, their literary background, and the contributions of their respective authors.
