Abstract

Punjab University Oriental College, also known as Oriental College, is an important institution in Lahore for teaching oriental studies and languages. Oriental College has a historical status in that the great personalities of the country who studied here are reaching the heights of fame all over the world. They are making the name of the country and the nation shine all over the world. The Urdu Department is an important department among other departments. The Urdu Department was established in 1928 to promote its language and literature. Initially, it was a research department which later took the form of a full-fledged department in 1948. Later, MA classes were launched in the Urdu Department. Along with teaching, the work of writing and compilation was also ongoing in this department. In addition, a series of poetry recitals, conferences, seminars, and lectures are also ongoing here from time to time. The Urdu Department is a beacon of light not only for the universities of its own country but also for foreign universities due to its academic and literary services. The works of teachers, researchers, and critics of the Urdu Department are used as authoritative references. Through this article, an attempt has been made to present an overall overview of the historical, literary, and scholarly contributions of the Urdu Department of Oriental College, Lahore.
