After the British occupation of the subcontinent, terms were introduced in the education system. In view of these terms, two historical colleges (University Oriental College, Lahore/ Government College University, Lahore) were established. Today, these two institutions hold a high position in the promotion of knowledge and literature in Pakistan as well as in the teaching institutions of the world. The first head of both these institutions was Dr. G.W. Lightner. His academic, literary and research services for these two institutions are unforgettable. In this article, a brief educational review of both institutions before the establishment of Pakistan has been presented.
