Abstract

Sampooran Singh Gulzar is a distinguished figure in Urdu-Hindi literature, renowned as a poet, short-story writer, screenwriter, dramatist, novelist, sketch writer, filmmaker, columnist, and translator. Just as eminent writers such as Mirza Farhatullah Beg, Shahid Ahmad Dehlvi, Rasheed Ahmad Siddiqui, Maulvi Abdul Haq, Saadat Hasan Manto, Ismat Chughtai, Josh Malihabadi, Muhammad Tufail, Mumtaz Mufti, Qudratullah Shahab, Ahmad Bashir, Kishwar Naheed, and Naiyer Masud produced outstanding literary sketches, Sampooran Singh Gulzar also secured a respected place in this tradition. Through his work "Gar Yaad Rahe", he contributed eleven biographical sketches that further enriched this genre. The present article aims to present a critical study of Gulzar’s art of sketch writing with specific reference to this book.
