Abstract

Halqa-i Arbab-i Zaoq was established in 1939 but it became a literary movement in 1944 after the entrance of Meera Jee in the meetings of Halqa. He set the mood of criticism and Halqa grow repidly. Halqa alongwith progressive writer’s movement established a very rich culture of criticism in Urdu. Muhammad Hasan Askari, Muzaffar Ali Sayyed, Iftikhar Jalib, Jeelani Kamran, Wazir Agha, Sajjad Baqir Rizvi, Sohail Ahmad Khan and many others set the tradition of criticism in Urdu and started scholarly discussions. In fact the contribution of Halqa in Urdu criticism is greater than any other literary organization or movement.
