Abstract

The more formal and established form of criticism in Urdu is study of style. On the contrary, stylistics is the modern way of criticism. Each piece of writing is immensely influenced by the socio-politic and religio-economic trends of its era and has critical peculiarities. The obvious questions which arise in study of stylistics are: when and where study of style and stylistics got inroads into Urdu literature? Is style and stylistics name of same approach of criticism or divergent in nature? Basically "style" is the way of presenting one's ideas whereas the stylistics is called the literary as well as linguistic analysis of the style. This article is the embodiment of the analytical exposition of the stylistic endeavours made by classical as well as modern linguistics of Urdu language.
