Abstract

This article deals with the tradition of Individual Elegiac Poems in the course of Urdu poetry, focusing upon their psychological studies. This psychological study involves the firm theoretical background in the realm of 'Grief, Mourning and Melancholia' in twentieth century psychology. It distinguishes between 'Grief and Grieving' and resultantly, indicates the line of separation between 'Grief reaction' and 'Grief response'. With such detailed explanation, it tells how an elegiac poet's 'Relations' the world and its surroundings and empowers his lost personality after bereavement by jotting down the elegies. Along with these pithy perspectives, the article studies selective elegies in Urdu poetry with their psychological enchantment.
