Abstract

Pessimism stands opposite to Optimism. Pessimism is a tendency to see only the negative or worse aspects of everything whereas Optimism is to see positive and bright aspects of everything. These two terms categorize human beings' behavior and their outlook and worldview. Usage of these terms is abound in every worth mentioning literature of the world. Urdu literature is no exception. Urdu poetry and especially genera of ghazal is replete with trends of Pessimism. This article focuses pessimistic trends in classical Urdu ghazal.
