Abstract
Sheikh Nor-ud-Din is considersed as the living symbol and the guiding light of Kashmir. Kashmiris recognise him as the Alamdare-Kashmir (the standard bearer of Kashmir). As a saint, revolutionary patriot and poet, he has exerted enormous influence on the beliefs and world view of the people of the valley. His thoughts have been moulding the minds of generations for more than seven centuires, establishing a culture of utmost religious tolerance with an abiding faith in the Omnipresence of God. No other saint, king, scholars or politician of Kashmir has recieved such national admiration as Sheikh Nor-ud-Din did.
