Abstract

Punjab is very rich culturally and history of its culture dates back to time immemorial. The land of Punjab has been very fertile as agriculture staple of its economy. Before industrialization, cultivation was done manually.  People used to live in tribes and worked together to earn more profit. Togetherness of work led them to lead a collective family life. This lifestyle remained in vogue for centuries. This system has both advantage and disadvantage. Folk songs are true representative of a culture. The bane and boon of this sytem got inroad into the Punjabi folk songs too. This article is a study of the traditition of folk song in perspective of Punjab's collective family system.
