Abstract

The history of short story writing in the Kashmiri language goes back to the middle of the 20th century and that too under the influence of the Progressive Movement whose primary objective was to portray the true albeit harsh reality of modern day life. When the modernist literature reached Kashmir, socio-economic and political situation in Kashmir was rich for its acceptance. Kashmiri writers and poets were greatly inspired by the Progressive Movement and they began writing short stories on the real issues of modern day in the Kashmiri language.
