Literary letters are considered to be an important document in Urdu literature. They unfold the hidden aspects of a literary personality. Research on Urdu letters along compilation and editing started with the publication of Mirza Ghalib’s letters. Special attention has been paid to editing of letters but unluckily, research done on the subject is not up to the mark. The tradition of letter-writing in Urdu is very rich but research work on printed letters is inadequate. The article is a review of research work on letters in Urdu literature.
