Abstract

Muhammad Hasan Askari initiated discussions on Pakistani Literature in 1949. He presented his theory of “Pakistani Adab”. By presenting this theory, Askari intended to form such a common and harmonized national literature which has all the historical, cultural and social features and characteristics of our golden Islamic values. Samad Shaheen, Mumtaz Sheerin, Saleem Ahmad, Sajjad Baqir Rizvi, Muzaffar Ali Sayed, Jamil Jalbi and many other literary figures warmly welcomed and supported Askari’s theory of “Pakistani Adab”. The reflection of these discussions can be seen in the literary journals like “Saqi”, “Naqoosh”, “Mah e Nau”, Humayon”, “Adab e Latif”, “Fanoon”, “Nizam”, “Urdu Adab” and “Naya Doar”  of 50’s, 60’s and 70’s.
