Abstract
Tarikh-i-Shakir Khani is one of the most important histories on Later Mughal period history form 1719-1761/1132-1173. It dwells on the reign of Muhammad Shah and his successors, down to the beginning of the reign of Shah’Alam II. Munshi Shakir Khan presented eye witness accounts of many incidents and narrated many rare and important documents in this book like accession of Muhammad Shah (1719-48) fall of Syed Brothers, reign of Ahmad Shah (1748-17), Alamgir II (1754-59), Shah Jahan III (1759-60), accession of Shah Alam Sani Ali Gauhar (October 1761-1806) proclamation of ‘Ali Gauhar Shah’ Alam in Delhi, and the defeat of the Sikhs by Ahmad Shah Durrani (1761). The article focuses Persian histriography with special reference to Tarikh-i-Shakir Khani.
