Abstract

Urdu fiction is proving to be helpful in developing a new global consciousness.  It has attained the height of artistic maturity owing to the employment of symbolism. The Urdu fiction has the full potential to portray cultural chaos, decaying morality, sexual perversion, instability, aggression, terrorism, issues related to family life, apathy, selfishness, egoism, snobbery, disappearance of middle classes, social and political interests, loneliness, psychological disturbances, soulless life, a sense of exile, self-made religious beliefs etc. Specimens from different short stories have been incorporated in the article to show the changing trends in contemporary Urdu fiction.
