Abstract

Urdu poetry has been dependent upon Persian poetics to a long extent. Prominent poets like Ghalib, Iqbal and Rashid etc. have shown keen interest in following the Iranian poetics. It’s why Iranian landscape and other cultural concerns can easily be traced in poetic tradition of Urdu. Although most of poets have abided by the Persian poetics and felt proud of it, yet Mir Taqi Mir was the first Urdu poet who came with a counter narrative in this respect. He has not only paved the way of using Iranian perspective in Urdu poetry with great creativity but also introduced ‘Rekhta’ parallel to Ghazal with full confidence for the first time. The article is a study of Iranian concerns found in the verse of Mir.
